Project Spotlight: Sustainable Slate Roof Installation for Level Up Developments – Designed by Eco Design Consultants

Our latest project—carried out for Level Up Developments and designed by the visionary team at Eco Design Consultants—is a perfect example of that mission in action.
This was more than just a roof replacement; it was a full-scale transformation focused on sustainability, performance, and aesthetic integrity.
Removing the Original Roof: Clearing the Way for Progress
The first phase involved the removal and ethical disposal of the original slate roof coverings, which had exceeded their functional lifespan. With safety and care, we stripped back the roof structure to provide a clean foundation for the new passive roofing system.
A Passive Roof Build-Up with Market-Leading Products
We installed a full passive roof build-up, using premium materials from Siga, Celotex, and Knauff. This high-performance combination was specified by Eco Design Consultants to maximise energy efficiency and indoor comfort:
Siga membranes deliver airtightness and superior moisture control.
Celotex rigid insulation ensures top-tier thermal performance.
Knauff mineral wool adds soundproofing and insulation depth.
The result? A roof that supports low-energy living, reduces heating costs, and contributes to a more sustainable building envelope.
Structural Works: New Rafter Feet & Window Framework
To reinforce the structure and prepare for new installations, we fitted new rafter feet and created bespoke framework for roof windows. These reinforcements are critical to long-term structural integrity and were tailored to fit the passive design strategy.
Re-Roofing in Style: Spanish Slate with Traditional Detailing
We re-covered the roof with premium Spanish slate, one of the most durable and elegant roofing materials available. To maintain a clean, traditional finish, we used a classic slate verge detail that ties beautifully into the building’s design ethos.
Spanish slate not only looks exceptional but offers decades of performance with minimal maintenance—a key benefit for developers like Level Up seeking long-term value.
Natural Light, Elevated: Neo Rooflights from The Rooflight Company
As part of the design vision from Eco Design Consultants, we installed Neo rooflights by The Rooflight Company. These rooflights deliver outstanding levels of daylight while preserving the clean lines of the slate roof.
Our team also created custom leadwork flashings, ensuring each unit was seamlessly integrated with maximum weather protection and minimal visual impact.
Solar-Ready: GSE In-Roof Solar Trays and Flashings
In line with the project’s sustainable focus, we installed GSE solar trays and flashings, preparing the roof for future solar panel integration. This in-roof system offers a sleek aesthetic while protecting against the elements—future-proofing the property for renewable energy generation.
